The Mariners kick off Spring Training games today. Seattle will face the San Francisco Giants to begin the cactus league play for both teams. The game will begin at 12:05 pm PDT and will be available on 710 am ESPN Seattle on the radio.
The Mariners have announced that Doug Fister will be the starter for the team’s first Spring Training game. Other pitchers who are scheduled to pitch today are right-handers Kanekoa Texeira , Ricky Orta, David Pauley, Mike Koplove and Jesús Colomé and left-hander Chris Seddon. The only name out of the this batch that stands out much is Fister. He made 10 starts for the Mariners last season and went 3-4 with a 4.13 ERA.
Manager Don Wakamatsu has also announced the starting line up for the game that will have the Mariners batters facing reigning 2-time Cy-Young winner Tim Lincecum. The following lineup is how the Mariners will begin the contest: Ichiro batting first in RF, Chone Figgins at 2B, Milton Bradley at LF, Ken Griffey Jr. at DH, Jose Lopez at 3B, Casey Kotchman at 1B, Eric Byrnes at CF, Adam Moore at C, and Jack Wilson at SS. Being a Spring Training game, this lineup will only last a short time. Each starter will probably get 2 at bats, at the most.
